Mr. Geoffrey Onyango hold Msc in climate change (Sustainable development), BSc in wood science and Technology. He has more than twenty-five years’ experience in Forestry issues, Restoration of landscapes, Poverty reduction, Gender and Renewable Energy and 15 years of which spend on climate change Advocacy, mitigation and adaptation. He has extensive experience in developing and managing Biomass Energy including charcoal and briquette productions, Eco-system Based Adaptation (EbA), Climate Smart Agriculture, Reduced Emission from forest deforestation and degradation (REDD+), Carbon Modeling, formation and working with CBOs, community training and workshops, and Natural Resource Based Income generating activities.

He has also worked as a Manager and Advisor in project planning, and implementation of programs as well as division management, Budget control and team work obtained through assignments with private sector, international organizations and government authorities, including the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility, the European Union, Care International, Africa Wildlife foundation, WWF, Oxfam GB, Norwegian church AID, GTZ, VI-Agroforestry, British America Tobacco, ICRAF, Greenergy, Diakonie. He has widely travelled and worked in Africa, Asia, and South America Nations.

Geoffrey was part of the team who developed REDD+ safeguards while at CARE International. Geoffrey has also participated in climate change negotiations representing civil society while at CARE international and CAMCO and working with several partners including CCAF (Climate change, Agriculture and Food security). Geoffrey has worked and coordinated a climate smart agriculture projects in western Kenya and Zanzibar. Geoffrey was part of the team that developed Kenya climate change response strategy and Kenya climate change action plan as well as Kenya Renewable Energy Policy/Act.
