Sustainable and Renewable Energy Solutions
The CENARE Team has experience in the renewable energy sector including national, regional and global policy and institutional frameworks governing sustainable and renewable energy especially in the biomass subsector that includes
- Solid biomass energy (firewood, charcoal and briquettes)
- Clean and efficient cook stoves
- Liquid biofuels and biogas.
The services offered range from technical to policy, market research and developing sustainable energy strategies. CENARE’s main practice areas include:
- Undertaking surveys on charcoal production and consumption in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Feasibility studies
- Market research on alternative energy sources
- Solid Waste Management
- Biomass Energy
- Development and Analysis of policy interventions to mainstream sustainable energy to improve livelihoods.
The primary mission of our organization in this respect is to bring about an improvement in biomass energy scenario and waste management situation in under-privileged communities globally.
CENARE Advisory involves Local Communities in bringing about positive changes in Waste Management scenarios by focusing on transforming a Liability (i.e. waste) into an Asset (i.e. heat, power or biofuels) through cost-effective measures.
Sustainable Charcoal and Biomass Energy Promotion and Training
CENARE offers training and support for sustainable charcoal and biomass energy initiatives, including development and dissemination of improved carbonization technologies and mainstreaming sustainable biomass energy programmes into national and local government planning.
Waste Management for Energy - Briquettes and Biogas
CENARE helps companies, institutions and individuals manage their solid and liquid waste by designing and implementing technical solutions to convert them into renewable energy sources such as briquettes and biogas.
Clean Cook-stove Research, Development and Promotion
CENARE recognizes that the demand-side interventions are as important as the supply-side in order to meet national energy security goals. The service offering in this area therefore includes the promotion of clean and efficient cooking technologies for domestic, institutional and SMEs sectors, market research and development of clean cook-stove dissemination strategies.
Biofuel Research and Promotion
The increasing global interest in “green” development and the concern over the role of fossil fuels in climate change has seen a resurgence of efforts in developing biofuels. However, uncertainties over the possible conflict between large-scale biofuel production and food security, the economics and technical feasibility means that a lot of work still needs to be done before biofuels can become mainstream. CENARE bridges this knowledge gap by undertaking related research on behalf of companies, development agencies and governments for the development of biofuels.
